Explorers Club Expedition - Siberia 2018

In 2018, I joined a Explorers Club led expedition in the Siberian Uyuk River Valley for 5 weeks. As second camera, we set out to document the excavation of Tunnug 1/Arzhan 0, the oldest known Scythian tomb dating to the 9th century BC. Footage compiled was to contribute to National Geographic print stories, and a documentary outlining the oldest cultural horizon of the Scythian people. The Excavation site and neighboring camps were in rough tents, under the guard of Russian Special Forces due to the cultural significance and rife illegal trade of their priceless artifacts. Changing climate of the Siberian tundra led to dramatic flooding and emergency storylines, as we raced to document the findings before the history of this little known, but often romanticized people could be washed away.

The materials below are photos I am allowed to show from the time there, as well as some promotional pitch materials. Included is a wireframe from a 360 video production showcasing different areas of the excavation site.
